The CIES 2023 Online Meeting Hub opens on February 1, 2023. The Hub is the online platform where you will engage the sessions scheduled on the two online days on February 14-15, including the online Pre-Conference Workshops, online concurrent sessions, online Book Launches, online Posters, online Plenary Sessions, and Zoom Socials. In addition, key plenary sessions (i.e., the Presidential Address, Invited Keynote Talks, the State of Society, etc) will also be made available synchronously online.
After the Hub is launched, you can login using the ID and password YOU created to register for the conference. This would be either your CIES member ID or CIES Guest ID (non-members) and password. It is important that you know what email ID you used to register to login or to reset your password.
A training video will be made available onthe same page so that you can navigate the platform more smoothly. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with it beforehand, and to not wait until the last minute to try your log-in for the first time. Tech support is often in high demand at this time, and we would like to assist you in advance should any problems arise.
Similar to CIES 2022, access to ALL online sessions will be available through the Hub. Online sessions will be available five (5) minutes before each session, with presenters, chairs, and discussants having access 15 minutes before their own session to coordinate with the technical host.
Asynchronous sessions are not listed in All Academic (because they do not have a specific presentation time) – they are available during the entire meeting. Links to these asynchronous sessions, including some Book Launches, and Posters, are in the Online Meeting Hub. Please remember, the schedule is created in Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). In both All Academic and the Hub you will be able to set your time zone to see times that are accurate for your location.
PERSONALIZING YOUR MEETING SCHEDULE is available in All Academic. The Hub does not have the capacity for individuals to create a personalized schedule. For synchronous sessions, you will be able to create a schedule where you can search and browse the program for individual sessions, by keyword, or by SIG names to see sessions offered through them. Then you can add sessions you would like to attend into your own individualized schedule. The chronological schedule can be downloaded to your personal calendar or saved within All Academic.
SYNCHRONOUS PRESENTATIONS
Most sessions for pre-conference workshops, papers, panels, roundtables, book launches, provocations, and posters are synchronous and have a scheduled presentation time. They will occur either on-site in Washington, D.C. or virtually in the Online Meeting Hub.
Onsite sessions will take place at the Grand Hyatt Washington and are only available, unless noted, to on-site attendees. On-site panelists may bring in their co-authors or co-presenters virtually to present in on-site sessions, but in these cases, panelists must determine their own virtual accommodations beforehand. We encourage you to set this up before your session begins, as we will not have tech support in on-site meeting rooms to help you do this in real time.
The online sessions will take place in the Online Meeting Hub. This platform is similar to the Zoom that most of us are familiar with – you’ll see boxes for each person in the session, whether presenting or not. You can set your own screen to see the “gallery” (everyone) or to just see the speaker. Attendees will have access to the sessions 5 minutes before they begin. Presenters, Chairs, and Discussants will have access 15 minutes before the session begins.
An IT technician will be available to address any security and technological issues. Each session’s chair will become a co-host, as will all presenters and discussants. This allows presenters to share their screen and use other options within Zoom.
Online Roundtable Presentations are similar to the other sessions that are using Zoom. The difference is that each roundtable will be in a breakout room. When you enter the Zoom room for roundtables, you will select the breakout room that corresponds to your session. (It will be important to have the most recent version of Zoom client on your computer so you can select the roundtable breakout room of your choice).
ASYNCHRONOUS PRESENTATIONS
Some Online Book Launches and Posters will be uploaded for asynchronous presentations and will be available during the meeting dates of CIES 2023.
Registrants are invited to visit these Online Book Launches and Posters – links are to be provided in the Online Meeting Hub – at any time during CIES 2023. Leave comments in the Chat, and feel free to return to see the conversation as it evolves throughout the week.
